#AtoZChallenge Reflection

April is history – and so is my 1st participation at the Blogging From A to Z Challenge. Now it is time to look back at what I created, reflect on my experiences, and look ahead to 2023.

For a while I played with the idea to write this reflection in the style of my theme reveal post, in the theatre, with cameos by the characters of my 26 stories (e.g. the cook from “Yummy” trying to catch the dog from “Whisper”), but I must confess that I’m feeling a bit exhausted from April. I need a creative break – and time for other hobbies.

#AtoZChallenge Z ~ Zero Tolerance

The number of players at the important football match was already decimated when another foul occurred. Not a severe one, but the referee interrupted right away and continued their zero tolerance approach.

The offending player automatically slipped into a “Who, me?” pose, despite knowing what was about to happen.

#AtoZChallenge Y ~ Yummy

Hi sis! Is it OK to call, or are you busy?

Well, you wanted to know about the reopened restaurant in our street, and I was there last evening.

Yeah, it was quite nice. They didn’t change much of the interior, mainly new china and of course a new menu. Still an international selection, not some special cuisine

Yes, sure, the food is what matters and what attracts customers.

#AtoZChallenge X ~ Xylophone

She loved to play the xylophone
most of all for its wooden tone.
Others in the house
said it was too loud.
Plea to mute it with styrofoam.

I’m not happy with my attempt at a limerick. It doesn’t sound right.

#AtoZChallenge W ~ Whisper

“Your behaviour is beyond embarrassment!” said the cat.

“Mind your own business!” retorted the dog.

They had lived together for three months now and she could not tolerate her housemate any longer. The disgust had become unbearable.

She had seen dogs before, the way they look up to their owners, completely giving up their self-esteem. But this one topped them all. Strangely enough he did not submit to her. Was it the usual animosity between their species?

#AtoZChallenge V ~ Ventriloquism

Ventriloquism: The name comes from the Latin for ‘to speak from the stomach’: venter (belly) and loqui (speak).  –  Source: Wikipedia

The local Ventriloquism Society convenes at their usual meeting place, a cozy pub in a side alley of High Street, and once again only Steve and Fred turn up. Well, the number of members is in the single digits and the ones who are still professionally active are frequently on tour.

#AtoZChallenge U ~ Universal Remote

“Say hello to our new family member!” he said to his wife who didn’t look too pleased in response, eyeing the bulky, multi-buttoned gadget suspiciously.

A week ago he had been struggling with their remote controls again. There were too many, the one you were looking for was always hiding under a cushion, and one of them frequently had empty batteries.

So he decided to try one of those universal remotes – one to rule them all!

#AtoZChallenge T ~ Teleportation

With a quiet sizzling noise she materialized in the middle of the room, feeling a bit dizzy from being teleported over such a large distance.

She had no idea where she was, as she had booked a last minute, extra cheap surprise adventure on an alien world, out of impulse. Departure had to be within 30 minutes as the event was about to happen immediately.

#AtoZChallenge S ~ Second

Yesterday, during my lunch break, when walking along the pedestrian area near my office, a man in suit and tie called to me.

“Hey! Got a second?”

For a moment I considered to just go on, then decided to give him a chance. I checked my schedule.

“Sorry, no small change. Only half an hour.”
